Dr. Tommy K Johnson, 83, entered the Church Triumphant today, April 21, in Panama City, Florida at his home.

He was born December 10, 1936, in rural North Carolina and lived most of his life in Panama City. He loved teaching and had a distinguished career as an educator and administrator with the federal government, local colleges, and high schools. He also had a distinguished military career as a veteran of the United States Air Force and the National Guard.

He was Director of Education for over 20 years at Tyndall Air Force Base. He was a college professor and high school teacher, as well as a master craftsman woodworker. He especially was a devoted Florida State University Seminole.

He was married for 53 years to Carolyn McSwain Johnson, who died in 2013.

He is survived by his wife of six years, Elaine Galloway Johnson; his son, The Reverend Jeffrey C. Johnson; his daughter, Maelinda Johnson; and grandson Kristian Haddock. He also is survived by two brothers, Donnie Johnson and Ronnie Smith in North Carolina. He had a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins in North Carolina.

He was a friend and companion to many. He enjoyed travel, eating out, watching college football, enjoying a great film, loving his pet cats, and creating wood masterpieces in his woodworking shop.

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, funeral arrangements will be made in the near future. Memorial services will be offered in both Florida and Massachusetts.

Requiem aeternam. Let light perpetual shine on him. AMEN.
