Barbara L. (Marine) Smith, 94, of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton and Athol, died September 19, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in Brockton to the late William and Marion (Drayton) Marine. She graduated from Brockton High School in 1944 and continued her education at Brockton Business College.

Barbara was married to the late George W. Smith, Sr., the love of her life. She was the loving mother of George Smith, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Vero Beach, Florida, Dianne Oman and her husband Gary of Bridgewater, and Debra Griswold and her husband Willard of Berkley. Barbara was sister of Carol Taylor of Pennsylvania and Brenda Johnson of Arkansas. She was predeceased by her brothers William and Paul Marine and her sister Priscilla.

Barbara was the proud grandmother of Kristen Smith and her husband Albert of Easton, Daniel Smith and his wife Jennifer of Easton, Jonathan Oman of Bridgewater, Amy Oman of Bridgewater, Jeffrey Oman and his wife Jenny of North Dighton, Julie MacKinnon and her husband Hugh of Taunton, and Gregg Griswold of Enfield, Maine. She was the great-grandmother (G.G.) of Rhyan Smith, Andrew, Zachary, and Eden Smith, Joshua, Michael, Christopher, and Jenna Oman, Taylin Oman and Nadine Cadima. She also had seventeen nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Barbara enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, reading, traveling, and spending lots of time with her long-time friends and family. She was a long-time active member of Christ Congregational Church where she enjoyed playing bells and volunteered for many activities, including the woman’s group and the Harvest Fair. Barbara was a stay at home mom who loved raising her children. Later she was employed by a medical office, electronics sales company, and an insurance agency from which she retired at the age of 88. Her favorite of these was being a “Mom” at which Barbara excelled!
