In Remembrance Carl “Buddy” Franzen, 1943-2023

Obit - Carl Buddy Franzen-1 (1)

Others We Remember

On July 11, 2023 Carl S. Franzen Jr. (Buddy) of Abington, MA entered the church triumphant with family at his side. He was a life long member of First Lutheran and brother to our beloved member, Gail Franzen.

The son of the late C. Stanley Franzen and Helen E. (Stenberg) Franzen, he was the oldest brother to Alan D., the late Captain Eric P., and Gail E. Franzen. He was the grandson of Swedish immigrants, often used Swedish expressions and looked forward to celebrating traditions and customs with family, including his in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

At the age of 15 he underwent the partial removal of a brain tumor and missed most of the school year. Despite having poor balance and double vision he worked hard, caught up and graduated with his class (1961) from Abington High School. He also attended the Brockton Business School and obtained his realtor broker license. His working career was interrupted by additional surgeries and eventually he became disabled.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, providing excellent care to his animals, playing games such as chess and cribbage and was our “Webster Dictionary” and trivia resource before the internet. Of note, Bud passed leaving no digital footprint. He never had the internet, a charge card or email address. He had the same home address his entire 80 ½ years. He was grateful for the longtime neighbors who helped him and the letter carriers who said hi with every delivery.

He is remembered as being a kind, quiet, quick-witted man with a keen sense of humor and always ready to have a cup of coffee with someone. He always shared what he had with many charitable organizations and was of strong faith being a confirmed member of the Lutheran church.

Memorial donations can be made to your local food bank or animal shelter.

Please keep the Franzen family in your prayers.
