Next Sunday, from 8:15 until 11:00 am, the youth will hold their annual Fall Harvest Breakfast in the vestry. Tickets will be on sale in the hallway after church this morning. Adult tickets are $6.00 and children are $3.00. Children under 3 are free. The menu will include pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, cereal, juice, tea, and coffee.
An additional theft of copper downspouts occurred in broad daylight on Tuesday of this past week. The theft occurred on the Nilsson Street side of the building. Due to the alertness of a neighbor who saw someone that she had never seen working on the church, she questioned him. He claimed to be a roofer "working" on the building. He then quickly took off with downspouts in his truck. A vendor making a delivery to the corner store was also a witness. Brockton Police were called and responded quickly, tracking a suspect to a local scrap yard where pieces of our downspout were recovered. Two suspects were questioned and as of Wednesday morning, we had not heard if anyone has been arrested and charged.
Last Sunday, we observed Stewardship Sunday where we received members' pledges for the work of the church in 2010. The response was good; however, we are still a long way from our goal both in terms of pledge units making a pledge and dollars pledged. Pledge cards are included in the bulletin for those who were not here last week. Please carefully consider your 2010 level of commitment to the work of First Lutheran and place your pledge card in the offering plate at the time of the offering. Thank you for your commitment to your church.
Thank you to all who donated candy, set up, cleaned up, and participated in the congregational Halloween Party last Sunday. It was a fun and well-attended event.
This morning at 10:15 am, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will meet in the Vestry for the purpose of holding elections for 2010.
